Twenty Highlights of the 2016 Season for Argon 18 and its Athletes



What a sensational year it’s been for Argon 18 and its professional athletes, with phenomenal victories and stellar palmares, new partnerships and blazing product launches.

Truth be told: if the past is any indication of the future, then the future of Argon 18 is promising. Here’s a recap of this record-breaking year.


1. Argon 18 signs legendary triathlete Craig Alexander

Five-time World Champion and current IRONMAN World Championships record holder, “Crowie” is a true leading figure and experienced athlete respected by all.


2. Sam Bennett 2nd behind André Greipel in first race of Mallorca Challenge

To start the season with a podium is great. And Sam showed once again his talent.


3. Three in three for Crowie

  • Crowie proved once again his supremacy and notched his 28th consecutive Ironman 70.3 win at Century Ironman 70.3 at Subic Bay, clocking in at 3:48:56.
  • He then signed his second win on his second event of the season at IRONMAN 70.3 Putrajaya, in brutally hot conditions, with temperatures reaching 32 °C.
  • Crowie broke the course record in his win at the SunSmart IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton in 3:42:59.


4. Argon 18 unveils National Danish Track Team’s bike

Quick as a flash, the new Electron Pro is the official bike of the Danish Track Cycling Team for the Rio Summer Olympics. 


5. Tisseyre starts season with a bang

Mighty Mags” started her season in force and came out roaring to win the 70.3 South American Championships, in Palmas, Brazil.


6. Historic Redlands Bicycle Classic for Silber Pro Cycling

Silber Pro Cycling delivered a fierce competition at the Redlands Bicycle Classic. Matteo Dal-Cin was the first Canadian to ever win this event in the race’s 34-year history.


7. Bauhaus takes 3 jerseys with his first win for BORA – Argon 18

Phil Bauhaus won the first stage of the Tour de Azerbaijan.


8. José Mendes is the Portuguese National Road Champion

José Mendes took the biggest win of his career by claiming the Portuguese road race title in impressive fashion.


9. Triathlete Matt Trautman leaves his mark

Trautman swept the title at IRONMAN 70.3 Durban with a new course record time and then earned top spot at IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire.


10. Silber Pro Cycling dominates Grand Prix Cycliste de Saguenay

After a remarkable string of success in the United States, Silber Pro Cycling returned home to Quebec and defended its 2015 victory of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Saguenay.


11. Tour of Utah: Dahl delivers

Kris Dahl delivered the biggest win of his career and the biggest win of Silber Pro Cycling’s breakthrough season on Stage 1 of the Tour of Utah. Matteo Dal-Cin finished 5th.


12. Lachlan Morton conquers tour of Utah

Jelly Belly Cycling’s rider Lachlan Morton bounced back on the final stage of the Tour of Utah to not just win the stage but also claim the overall title.


13. Three Top-10 results and a leader’s jersey at the Tour de France

  • Paul Voss rode an aggressive race to earn the KOM jersey, the team’s first ever Tour de France leader jersey.
  • Bartosz Huzarski finishes in 6th place at the first mountain stage.
  • Shane Archbold takes 10th place in Stage 6.


14. A special mention for Sam Bennett at the Tour de France

Despite Stage 1 crash, Irishman reaches Paris as Lanterne Rouge and finishes 9th on the Champs-Élysées.


15. Bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games

The Danish National Track Cycling Team won the bronze medal at the 4000-meter Team Pursuit with a comfortable win against New Zealand.


16. Bronze medal and Olympic record for Lasse Norman Hansen

Lasse Norman Hansen had a smashing start when he won the first two events of the Omnium, the scratch race and the individual pursuit, for which he broke the Olympic record with a time of 4.14.982. He then went on to win the bronze in the event.


17. Argon 18 enters UCI World Tour

Argon 18 announced its partnership with Astana Pro Team for the upcoming 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons.


18. Argon 18 brings Gallium Pro Disc model to market

The Gallium Pro Disc features an evolutionary design adding disc brakes and maintains the nimble and fast characteristics that define this renowned bike, all while lightening up the frame.


19. Two 7th places for BORA – Argon 18 at la Vuelta a España

Scott Thwaites Takes 7th place on Stage 8 and Bartosz Huzarski on Stage 9.


20. Argon 18 sees increases presence in Kona, 5th in IRONMAN bike count

Argon 18 had a 5% increase in the bike count for a total of 106 bikes, obtaining 5th position in this year’s annual Kona IRONMAN Bike Count collected by LAVA Magazine.
