A Closer Look at the Argon 18 Bikes In the 2016 Tour de France

Argon 18 is in its second Tour de France as the official bike and co-title sponsor of BORA – Argon 18 German cycling team. This year’s iconic event has dealt the riders every type of condition from high heat, to chilling rain and hail to tremendous winds. The strong BORA – Argon 18 squad have showcased their abilities in daily attacks, aggressive breakaways both in the flat stages early in the race and in the recent climbing routes, showcasing the versatility of Argon 18 bikes.

“The Tour de France is the undisputed benchmark in the sport. It’s an important event for cycling and cycling companies. A place in the Tour de France peloton secures Argon 18's position among the world's top bike brands,” said Gervais Rioux, Founder and CEO of Argon 18.

The cycling machines on the roads of France this July are the Gallium Pro, the Nitrogen Pro for the road and mountain stages, and the E-118 Next for the time trials. With the option of the Gallium Pro and the Nitrogen Pro, the riders are able to chose the geometry and technology best suited for their riding style on that stage.

The Gallium Pro is a superlight bike designed to climb the highest peaks in the world. When riding downhill, its remarkable stability and razor-sharp handling deliver a stellar performance. During the climbing stages of the second week of the Tour, the squad opted for this technology driven bike for its handling ability. While the flatter starting stages of the race the bike of choice mainly in the team was the Nitrogen Pro.

“We are thrilled to be able to count on such a high-quality bike!” Paul Voss, BORA – Argon 18 said. Voss earned the stage 1 KOM leader jersey, riding the responsive Nitrogen Pro.

With the time trial being one of the determining stages in the General Classification, the E-118 Next is critical to the positioning and the power output of the riders. “There is a tremendous amount of engineering in the E-118 Next and I feel it is one of the fastest bikes in the peloton,” Ralph Denk, Team Manager, BORA – Argon, said.
