WASSNER TWINS BOTH TOOK THEIR TALENTS TO REV3 MAINE OLYMPIC TRIATHLON

2016-08-30

The title goes to Rebeccah while Laurel takes 3rd place

Rebeccah Wassner is still returning to form after having her second child just 7 months ago at the beginning of 2016. She's won over 20 professional races but the unanswered question: was her fitness progressing?

On the other hand Laurel Wassner had just raced Ironman Mont-Tremblant only 7 short days before ending up on the podium in 2nd there. Trying to go from the long course, full Ironman distance to a fast-twitch, Olympic distance in a week, could she make the turn around that quick, recover and find her speed?

Both sisters respond mightily!

Rebeccah had a great day leading from start to finish. After a terrific 20:01 swim she was the first to T1.

“All I had to do was bike 220 watts for an hour and run a 38-minute 10km,” she said, and that's exactly what she did, splitting the fastest bike of 1:03:24 and running a very solid 38:47 10k to take the title in 2:06:13!

Laurel followed her sister closely, 3rd out of the water in 20:18. Even with the fatigue of an Ironman still fresh in her legs Laurel posted the 2nd fastest bike split of the day, a 1:05:49 and closed with a 40:05 run to finish on the podium in 3rd in a time of 2:10:37.
