Argonauts were well represented this weekend at the Challenge Forte Village in Sardinia. European middle distance triathlon Champion, Giulio Molinari, won the men’s event in 4:10:20. In the women’s field, Tine Deckers, who had a very good season, finished the race in second position, with a final time of 4:35:04.
Saddle Up for Victory
Fit and clearly above the rest of the field, Molinari permanently dropped his competitors by offering a stellar performance on the 90km bike course. After that he only had to maintain his pace during the run in order to conquer the victory, leaving the rest of his competitors share the remaining places on the podium.
In the women’s race, the suspense went on until the very end. As usual, Belgian Argonette Tine Deckers had a solid bike split. Dickers was unfortunately caught by Italian Sara Dossena at the finish line, but she was able to contain Michelle Vesterby and keep her second position on the podium.
“This is so great. This awesome year just keeps on going. Ironman Hawaii made me tumble off my little cloud. My goal for Sardinia was a spot on the podium. Mission accomplished! My swim was solid. On the bike I quickly found a nice rhythm and I gradually built my lead until kilometer 60. I am definitely happy with this result.”
