BORA – ARGON 18 lines-up with special Gallium bikes at Paris-Roubaix

2015-04-10

BORA – ARGON 18 will race Paris-Roubaix on Sunday for the 5th consecutive time. The co-naming partner of the team, Canadian bike manufacturer Argon 18, provided the German squad with optimized bikes for the “Queen of the Classics”. Based on the team’s road bike Gallium the experts from Montreal built a special prototype, exclusively for the pro team. The riders tested different configurations on their Argon 18 bikes in the latest Northern classics where they scored more than a dozen Top5 results.

The changes for the upcoming Paris-Roubaix include reworked chain stays and new lay-up for the front fork in order to improve absorption of vibrations and impacts. Above, the Classics Edition of the Argon 18 Gallium has increased clearance to fit Vision’s Metron 40 wheels with the Vittoria Pave 28mm, pumped to 5.5-6.0bar. Some BORA – ARGON 18 riders will also opt for double-taped Prologo bar tape to provide added comfort. On-bar remote shifters of the Shimano DuraAce Di2 and an extra on-bar brake lever secure a proper bike handling on the cobbles. Removed bodies on the Speedplay Zero Pavé pedals ensure a trouble-free handling with dirty cleats, while taped Tacx Deva bottle cages prevent from bouncing bottles on the cobbled sectors.

Ralph Denk, Team Manager BORA – ARGON 18: “Paris-Roubaix is such a special race that it’s simply required to have special bike setups. One must find the right balance between handling and comfort on 50km of cobblestones as well as the rigidity you need on the other 200km. But then you can’t experiment in the race itself. Once a rider lines-up in Compiègne he needs to trust completely in his material. We are more than happy that Argon 18 provided us already back in February with different classic set-ups that we tested in diverse races. The classics edition turns out to be very reliable and to go as smoothly as possible with the various components.”

Gervais Rioux, President of Argon 18: “We wanted to be proactive and get in front of the team’s needs by providing bicycles adapted to the unique race conditions at Paris-Roubaix, and to the Northern Classics before that race. It is important for us that athletes approach every event with absolute confidence in their equipment. By providing the most competitive bike possible, we ensure a favorable environment for them to perform and, therefore, to obtain results.”
